Forum: forums Subject: Re: Suggestion for Deriviation

I have tried making a new page, and the derivation for Midi files works excellent for new pages. However, I have multiple old pages, such as this one below, where I experience a problem.

http://www.archive.org/details/baptist1.narod.ru

In this page, I clicked on "Edit" and "change the information". I scrolled down and found my .mid files. I tried to change the format from "Unknown" to "MIDI", but "Midi" format was NOT available. On the new page that I created, "Midi" format is available, but on the old pages, "Midi" format is NOT available.

Then I clicked on the "Item Manager" and I clicked "Derive". I waited until the system finished deriving the files. However, after the deriviation has finished, the .mid files remained in "Unknown format". Also, an "MP3" version of the .mid files was NOT derived.

I greatly appreciate that you made the option for .mid files to be derived to .mp3. I mean it's really useful... A

Another site suggestion, is to make "MIDI" format available on the old pages.

weird -- some of our boxes didn't get the update yesterday (but most did).
you should be able to try again, select MIDI now for the format,
and queue a derive to make it work!

PS: glad to help bring a new format to an appreciative user! 8-)

Awesome, it worked. Thank you very much. 8-)

I have one final suggestion for the MIDI files. Archive.org makes Ogg vorbis and MP3 VBR out of the MIDI files. Archive.org pages places Ogg Vorbis and VBR MP3 side by side. Then, it places the MIDI files at the very bottom of the the page (after it has finished displaying all MP3 and OGG files). See attached picture #1 to see how archive.org currently organizes the files.

Is it possible to make it, so that Archive.org would display Ogg vorbis, VBR MP3 and MIDI files side by side (Look at the attached picture #2).

If this request is fulfilled, then archive.org pages would appear to be much more organized. Thank you for fulfilling my previous requests and if it's possible, please fulfill this request also. I appreciate it.

Oh, wow, the page looks perfect and well organized. Thank you very much for your time and for your concern.

I have noticed that whenever the computer derives files, it adds "_vbr" to the end of the files. For example, "File.mid" would be derived to "File_vbr.mp3". Is it suppose to do that "_vbr", or is it possible to remove "_vbr" from the .mp3 file name?

Also, In the process of derivation, a file appeared in one of the directories called ".message.lv_vbr_mp3.zip.qzcnlb". It takes up 923 MB and I receive errors when I try to rename it or delete it. When I click to download the file, I receive a message saying, "The item is not available due to issues with the item's content."

Could you try removing or correcting the file? The link for that file is below.

we use _vbr.mp3 for historical reasons -- when we used to make 2 kinds of MP3 formats -- 64Kbps and VBR.
by around the end of the year or so, we'll prolly drop the "_vbr" suffix and rederive all items.

that weird file is a "turd file" -- guessing you hit [submit] on the /edit/ page but you or the system still had a file "in flight" that wasn't fully 100% on disk yet.
i'll clip that file out for now. in future, maybe way up to 15 seconds after last file has copied up to make sure it "syncs" to disk, etc. (if it wasn't anything that you might have been doing that comes to mind and it was indeed something in our system somehow).

I found one more bug with the MIDI derivation.

Usually, when one wants to change the file Title, one clicks "Edit" and "Change the information". After one has finished changing the title, the title changes in both the black media player and on the main page (Below the black media player).

When I changed the Title of the MIDI files, the title name did change on the main page (below the media player). However, the title names did NOT change in the black media player. Please correct the site, so that the Title would also change in the black media player. Thank You. Click on the link below to see an example of the problem. (Notice that the Title name of the black media player differs from the Title name of the actual files).
